Windows XP users have been sitting idly on Service Pack 2 for a while now. One release of an upgraded OS later, Microsoft finally got to work on SP3 for XP. There are a few decent changes, but overall not nearly as impressive as SP2.

This weekend, I committed myself to fully converting to Linux and to quit Windows. I took a look at my usual computer usage and what applications I really used and made certain I had a reasonable alternative.

By the grace of God or my incessant bitching yesterday, Lifehacker posted how to stop the Windows Update window from popping up again.
Start
Run
Type sc stop wuauserv.
Press Enter.
Live in peace without that Automatic Updates pop-up.

I always wished for the option of “Do not remind me for 8 hours” in the constant “Automatic Updates” reminder. Yeah, yeah, I know I need to be more responsive to the Windows Update process but it’s just so futile. Oh, how I drown in my hatred for Windows.
