Service is the New Product

Lately, I’ve noticed a trend in how products are marketed to consumers, most notably, service. No longer is it just a product’s features which make it sell; it’s the service that goes along with it. Let’s take a look at a couple examples of this “new” product.

Coming Soon: AOL Radio for the iPod 3G

AOL’s Music Programming team finally ‘gets it,’ with their newest incarnation of online streaming radio. Apple recently awarded AOL an Apple Design Award in the Entertainment category for upcoming applications.

AOL Radio with CBS Isn’t All that Bad

As many of you are aware, AOL recently killed their AOL Radio contract with XM Radio, in favor of partnering with CBS Radio. AOL and AIM users can access broadband-quality streaming music for free which will give them access to 200+ online radio stations.

DMX Blazes up the AZ-101 Loop at 114MPH

Who says Arizona doesn’t have celebrities? Maybe if you’re in Phoenix, you probably saw DMX fly past you on the local suburban highway, known as the AZ-101, at 114MPH. Of course, the incident happened on January 21, almost five months later, he was arrested on several charges.

As if times at AOL Radio weren’t bad enough, a legal decision will now require three of the Internet’s content distributors to pay for proper licensing to ASCAP for music they streamed to Web users.
