Michael Dolan, 24, was sentenced yesterday to seven years in prison for fraud and aggravated identity theft for four-year string of phishing activity on AOL. Dolan crafted a series of elaborate phishing scams in an effort to scam thousands of users out of money. Detailed below is an example of one such scam.

Spam-king, Eddie Davidson, escaped from prison with the help from his girlfriend and eventually led to the murder-suicide of Davidson and his girlfriend. This just shows that convicted spammers are ruthless and will do anything they can for an easy out.

Bebo, AOL’s most recent acquisition in the social networking space, has been laid to blame for a suicide of Sam Leeson, a 13 year old student from Tredworth, Gloucestershire (UK). Yet again, this is another instance of people not taking responsibility and laying blame into a social network provider.

The 49 year old woman, Lori Drew, who engaged in destructive discussions with 13 year old Megan Meier; will be charged under federal law for her acts that lead to the suicide of Megan. However, this incident does pose some interesting legal challenges.
