Joe - You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time -- no matter what you do.

Congratulations on the new job!

Brenda,

The peanut gallery speaks again, always knowing more than me. Clearly, some things didn't work, but some tactics did. Ideally shutting off an online area is not in everyone's best interest, but at times it must be done if the other aspects of community management are not adequately achieved.

I will ask that you refrain from making any further digs about AOL on my blog, and add something constructive to the conversation. Yes, I know you hate the company, yes I know you hate my old team, yes I know you find it totally unfair that AOL has capricious and unequal TOS enforcement, and yes I know you disliked the "mishmashmesh." Please surprise me with some useful conversation instead of drivel that you repeat over and over.

Kthxbye.

"Shutting online areas down in response to excessive negative user activity.
Throwing more moderation staff (aka, “body count”) into an area with excessive negative user activity.
Static enforcement technology and/or policies "

What DOESN'T work?! LOL...that's exactly what your ex-employer did!
