Yes. I did it. Most Linux geeks would ask why — I just wanted to see what’s involved to get AOL working on Linux.
How?
- Download and Install Ubuntu.
- Install Wine
- Download AOL from OldVersion.com
- Right click the executable, and click “Open with”
- Type “wine” and click OK.
And now you are presented with the installation for AOL. Proceed through it as you normally install AOL.
… and sign on. ![]()

I thought AOL had a version for Liunx? Well on the download page they had a tab for Liunx, I can’t find it now?

Mike, you’re thinking of AIM for Linux. http://downloads.channel.aol.com/linuxproducts
Anyhow, Gaim (on Linux) truly is the fastest, most stable, and cleanest looking IM client I’ve used.
