Yes. I did it. Most Linux geeks would ask why — I just wanted to see what’s involved to get AOL working on Linux.

How?

  1. Download and Install Ubuntu.
  2. Install Wine
  3. Download AOL from OldVersion.com
  4. Right click the executable, and click “Open with”
  5. Type “wine” and click OK.

And now you are presented with the installation for AOL. Proceed through it as you normally install AOL.

… and sign on. :)

  1. I thought AOL had a version for Liunx? Well on the download page they had a tab for Liunx, I can’t find it now?

  2. Mike, you’re thinking of AIM for Linux. http://downloads.channel.aol.com/linuxproducts

Anyhow, Gaim (on Linux) truly is the fastest, most stable, and cleanest looking IM client I’ve used.

  3. Ahhh. Lol, my bad.
