April Fools’: YouTube Rick Rolled Everyone
Apr 1, 2008 Blogging, Funny, Tech News
Today, YouTube Rick Rolled thousands (possibly millions) of users who clicked on their featured video listings. All the videos pointed to a Rick Astley video (hence the term, Rick Rolling).
I love it.
For those who don’t know, Rick Rolling is the term used when someone makes a link like, “Free Porn,” on a discussion forum, but instead of seeing a lot of bare skin, visitors are taken to a Rick Astley video. It’s a classic tactic on forums.

The main thing that sucks about Rick Rolling is that it’s just about as old as Chuck Norris jokes. Which means that pretty soon I’m going to Rick Rolled by the same people that are still Norris Rolling me, or LOLcats rolling me. It was on the Today Show, for the love of G-d! Out there in the deepest reaches of the internet, on Dell computers with NetZero or AOL connections, there are still idiots sending All Your Base around… Rick Rolling is just around the corner for those “people.”
And sure enough, I got rickrolled on my cellphone about 8 times today from some pretty behind-the-times family members and friends. I’m talking people that willingly install Bonzi Buddy.
